This role plays a critical part in advancing clean energy initiatives by providing engineering expertise to evaluate, support, and improve energy efficiency and demand management programs.

As a Technical Energy Efficiency Engineer, you will perform technical reviews of commercial and industrial energy efficiency projects, validate engineering calculations, assess building systems, and ensure projects meet program requirements, energy codes, and industry standards. Working alongside program managers, contractors, customers, and cross-functional engineering teams, you will provide technical guidance that supports high-quality project execution while helping customers maximize energy savings and incentive opportunities.

This position offers the opportunity to work on innovative clean energy programs, evaluate emerging technologies, develop standardized engineering tools, and contribute to continuous process improvements that directly support New York's clean energy transition.

Key Responsibilities
Perform technical reviews of complex energy efficiency and demand management projects to ensure compliance with program requirements, engineering standards, and applicable energy codes.
Review engineering designs, project specifications, calculations, and technical documentation to verify project eligibility and expected energy savings.
Prepare detailed technical reports summarizing findings, recommendations, and engineering analyses for internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
Serve as a technical resource for internal program staff, participating contractors, vendors, and customers by providing guidance on incentive eligibility and technical requirements for both prescriptive and custom projects.
Participate in project meetings with engineering teams, contractors, customers, and stakeholders to discuss technical findings and project implementation.
Develop, maintain, and enhance Excel-based engineering tools, including Building Automation System (BAS) calculators, to improve the consistency and accuracy of energy savings calculations.
Conduct field visits to verify equipment installations, assess operating conditions, and validate the technical feasibility of proposed or completed projects.
Research and evaluate emerging energy efficiency technologies, providing engineering assessments, cost-benefit analyses, and recommendations for future program adoption.
Collaborate with the Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) team to resolve technical issues, improve program quality, and implement process enhancements.
Lead engineering process improvements and support the development of standardized workflows that increase operational efficiency and improve the customer experience.
Perform additional engineering assignments and technical support activities as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline preferred.
Experience performing technical reviews, engineering evaluations, or energy analyses for commercial and industrial energy efficiency projects.
Strong understanding of the New York State Technical Resource Manual (TRM) and applicable energy codes, including ASHRAE and IECC.
