Job Description
We are seeking a Principal Cloud Engineer with deep experience in Microsoft Government Community Cloud High (GCC High) environments to design, maintain, secure, and improve cloud infrastructure supporting highly regulated government and defense environments.

This is a hands-on technical role for an engineer who understands that GCC High and the Government tenant operate differently from Microsoft?s commercial cloud environment. The ideal candidate has spent significant time working directly within GCC High and is comfortable navigating its unique architecture, security requirements, compliance standards, and technology constraints.

The successful candidate will also be a versatile technical contributor who can collaborate with system administrators, security teams, and other technology stakeholders to solve complex infrastructure and compliance challenges.

Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, maintain, and optimize cloud infrastructure within Microsoft GCC High.
Support and administer Microsoft Government tenant environments while adhering to government-specific architecture and security requirements.
Develop secure, scalable cloud solutions appropriate for highly regulated government environments.
Collaborate with system administrators and other technical teams to troubleshoot issues and implement infrastructure improvements.
Help establish and maintain cloud security, governance, compliance, and operational standards.
Evaluate infrastructure and technology needs and recommend solutions that align with government tenant capabilities and requirements.
Support compliance workflows and automation using the Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Automate, Power Apps, and Power BI.
Develop and maintain automated workflows that support compliance, reporting, approvals, and operational processes.
Assist with security assessments, documentation, configuration reviews, and remediation activities.
Apply government security and compliance frameworks to cloud infrastructure and operational processes.
Troubleshoot complex cloud, identity, networking, security, and integration issues.
Work across multiple technical areas as needed and contribute as a versatile member of the infrastructure team.
Document configurations, procedures, troubleshooting steps, and technical standards.
Stay current with changes affecting GCC High, government cloud capabilities, and applicable compliance requirements.

Required Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of hands-on GCC High experience; 5+ years strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience working directly within a Microsoft GCC High / Government tenant environment.
Strong understanding of how the Government tenant differs from Microsoft commercial cloud environments.
Experience supporting cloud infrastructure in a highly regulated government or defense environment.
Strong understanding of Microsoft cloud technologies and government-specific cloud architecture.
Solid understanding of the Microsoft Power Platform, including:
Power Automate
Power Apps
Power BI
Experience integrating Power Platform solutions with compliance and business workflows.
Familiarity with government cybersecurity and compliance terminology and requirements, including:
FedRAMP ? Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program
FISMA ? Federal Information Security Modernization Act
CMMC ? Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification
DISA STIG ? Defense Information Systems Agency Security Technical Implementation Guide
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with system administrators and other technical teams.
Comfortable wearing multiple hats and contributing across infrastructure, cloud, security, and automation initiatives.
Strong documentation and communication skills.

Government Cloud Experience ? Critical Requirement

Direct GCC High experience is required.

Candidates whose experience is limited primarily to Microsoft commercial cloud environments are not considered a strong fit. The Government tenant has different technology capabilities, routing, security requirements, compliance considerations, and operational processes. Candidates must already understand and be comfortable working within these constraints.

If a candidate is unfamiliar with GCC High or asks what GCC High is, they should not be considered qualified for this role.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a senior/principal-level cloud engineer who has substantial hands-on GCC High experience and understands the unique requirements of government cloud environments.

They should be comfortable working across multiple technical disciplines rather than operating in a narrowly defined role. This person will collaborate closely with system administrators and other technical teams, troubleshoot complex issues, support compliance initiatives, and help improve the organization's overall cloud infrastructure.

Must-Haves
3+ years GCC High experience; 5+ preferred
Direct Microsoft Government tenant experience
Strong understanding of GCC High architecture and limitations
Power Platform: Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI
Experience integrating Power Platform with compliance workflows
Familiarity with FedRAMP, FISMA, CMMC, and DISA STIG
Ability to obtain required clearance
Strong collaboration and cross-functional troubleshooting skills
