Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Data Center Smart Hands Technician to provide hands-on support within a data center and enterprise infrastructure environment. This role is ideal for someone with experience working around servers, network equipment, racks, cabling, and other IT infrastructure.

The technician will work independently onsite while following documented procedures and technical direction from remote network, server, and infrastructure engineering teams. This is a hands-on technical support position and does not involve team leadership, people management, or infrastructure design responsibilities.

Responsibilities
Perform routine data center, server room, IDF, and MDF walkthroughs and report equipment, cabling, environmental, security, or facility concerns.
Install, remove, rack, stack, label, and organize servers, switches, routers, and other IT infrastructure equipment.
Support server, network, and infrastructure installations, moves, additions, changes, and removals.
Replace hardware components such as power supplies, hard drives, memory, fans, and cables.
Install, trace, replace, test, label, and organize copper and fiber cabling.
Perform cable management and maintain clean, organized racks, cabinets, patch panels, and infrastructure areas.
Verify equipment power, status indicators, ports, physical connections, and cabling during troubleshooting.
Perform reboots, power cycles, connectivity checks, visual inspections, and basic diagnostics as directed by remote engineering teams.
Assist with network equipment installations and replacements.
Support equipment decommissioning, asset validation, staging, packing, and approved disposal activities.
Assist with hard-drive replacement, removal, handling, and validation in accordance with security procedures.
Escort authorized vendors and third-party service providers within secured infrastructure areas.
Maintain accurate documentation of equipment locations, asset changes, cabling changes, hardware replacements, inspections, and completed work.
Update service tickets, incidents, change records, inventory, and asset records as required.
Follow all applicable data center, security, safety, access-control, change-management, and documentation procedures.
Communicate work status, site conditions, issues, and exceptions clearly to remote engineering teams and local stakeholders.
Support infrastructure refreshes, deployments, equipment lifecycle activities, and other data center projects.
Participate in an approximately biweekly after-hours/on-call rotation.

Qualifications
2?5 years of hands-on experience in a Smart Hands, data center, server room, infrastructure, network support, or similar technical environment.
Previous experience working in a data center, colocation facility, IDF/MDF, server room, or enterprise infrastructure environment.
Experience installing, removing, organizing, and supporting servers, network equipment, racks, cabinets, and cabling.
Working knowledge of copper and fiber cabling, patch panels, network ports, labeling, and basic cable troubleshooting.
Experience replacing hardware components such as drives, memory, power supplies, fans, and cables.
Familiarity with servers, networking equipment, racks, power distribution, and cabling components.
Ability to follow technical procedures and instructions from remote engineering and infrastructure teams.
Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently with limited onsite supervision.
Strong communication and customer-service skills.
Ability to safely lift, move, rack, and handle IT equipment.
High school diploma or GED required.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Cisco, or similar enterprise hardware.
Experience using ServiceNow or another IT service-management/ticketing platform.
Familiarity with incident, service request, change management, asset management, and equipment lifecycle processes.
CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar technical certification.
Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Additional Requirements
100% onsite position in Rensselaer, NY.
Remote or hybrid work is not available.
Must be available to participate in an approximately biweekly on-call rotation.
Occasional evening or weekend support may be required based on operational needs.
Must be comfortable working independently in a secure data center environment.
