M-F, 9am - 5pm w an hour lunch




The position reports to a senior scientist who is motivated to help you grow professionally within the Asphalt Innovation team.



Responsibilities



Demonstrates a commitment to safety


-Working safely is a condition of employment at Owens Corning.
-Implement a personal safety action plan and review with leader.
-Engagement in regular safety meetings and lab huddles.
-Ensure rigorous compliance to standard safety procedures and OC corporate policies for both yourself and others.
-Ensure a commitment to zero accidents while working with hot asphalt and various chemicals.
-Practice good housekeeping and clean lab space maintenance habits.


Execute asphalt testing


-Become proficient with our routine hands-on asphalt testing (e.g., rotational viscosity, penetration, softening point, dynamic shear rheology, capillary rheology etc.) and be willing to solve problems (preferably with your colleagues) when they arise.
-Understand standard operation protocols (SOP) and job hazard analysis (JHA) documents.
-Provide accurate data collection and reports in timely manner.
-Understand the different physical properties of different types of asphalts.
-Understand the various testing instruments and be able to troubleshoot them.
-Excellent time management. Balance and prioritize multiple assignments across individual or multiple projects.
-Collaborate with product developers, scientists, and engineers to deliver quality data and clearly communicate your observations and estimated timeline.
-Able to safely adapt to changes in protocols which are parts of innovation.
-Maintains a clean, safe, and operational environment at all times.
-Provide team support with calibrations, preventative maintenance on instruments, housekeeping and inventory.
-Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Office.

Education & Experience Requirements:

-A four-year technical/lab/engineering/science degree with 0-2 year of experience in lab operations.
OR

A two-year technical/lab/engineering/science associate degree with 1-3 years of experience in lab operations in lieu of a four-year degree.
OR

A 2-4 year college degree with 4+ years relevant lab experience.

-Must understand and have good basic computer skills. A working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) is required.
-Mechanical, hands-on aptitude with analytical equipment is needed for working in the lab.
-Ability to operate lab equipment safely.
-Excellent verbal and written communication
-Ability to work both independently and with teams.
-Creativity and initiatives for improvements in product testing for efficiency.
-Ability to solve problems to unique problems. Ability to think outside the box is a plus.
-2 years lab experience is preferred.
