Job Description: Quality Associate Scientist About the Role: The QM Associate Scientist is a laboratory Microbiologist who independently schedules and performs a wide variety of multiple, complex microbiological tests of complex biological raw materials and greater than 100 different complex products in response to customer demand. Job Overview: The Quality Management Associate Scientist (QMAS) performs microbiological tests on a variety of plated/liquid culture media products and interprets data to ensure product quality. The QMAS performs visual inspections of physical samples and paper records and employ standard microbiology laboratory technique including but not limited to pipetting, streak/spread plate inoculations methods, pour plate methods, serial dilutions, stab inoculation technique among others. The QMAS is adept at maintain aseptic technique, is detailed oriented and organized, possess good time management skills and can succeed working in a team setting as well as independently. This scientist must be able to operate stationary instruments of low to moderate complexity, such as pH meters, analytical balances, and spectrophotometer, among others. In addition, the Quality Management Associate Scientist may perform non-routine tasks such as supporting product inspection for ongoing investigations and projects. The QMAS is required to work often with computer systems and software. The QMAS must be able to seat, walk and stand for extended periods of time and up to 4 continuous hours, lift and carry items weighing up to 15 pounds independently, and keep constant handwritten records. The QM Associate Scientist must be able to use personal protective equipment such as lab coats, respirator masks, gloves, non-permeable full cover shoes and safety glasses for extended periods of time. The QM Associate Scientist will work in any of the laboratories within the QC department without a permanent assignment. The QM Associate Scientist may be required to perform testing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB) and other similar organisms requiring Biosafety Level 3 Laboratory containment with strict adherence to safety policies associated with this manner of testing. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: - Experience working with Microbes and Bacteria and associated knowledge of a biosafety level 2 laboratory. - Knowledge of Microbiology and Biochemistry as they relate to bacteria, yeast, and fungi. - Ability to work in a clean room environment meeting validation requirement associated with donning and doffing clean room garments. - Knowledge of the following industry regulations FDA (Food and Drug Administration), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) /GDP (Good documentation practices) in a GMP environment. QSR (Quality System Regulation), ISO (International Organization of Standardization). - Knowledge of PC spreadsheet, word processing, and database applications. - Good verbal and written communication skills. - Good problem solving and trouble-shooting skills with the ability to make independent decisions. - Patience - Attention to detail. - Decisiveness - Independence - Analytical skills - Teamworking skills EDUCATION: - Bachelor's degree in biology, Microbiology or other related Life Science is preferred. Minimum of laboratory related certificate from accredited institution required. EXPERIENCE: - Minimum of 1 years practical experience in a Microbiological, or Medical Technology Laboratory required.
