Job Title: Settlement Attorney
Location: New York, NY 10003
Schedule: Hybrid ? In-person and virtual appearances required across the 5 boroughs. Court appearances may count as in-office days.
Pay Range: $80?$90/hour (based on experience)

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Settlement Attorney to lead the resolution of personal injury and property damage cases. This role requires independent negotiation skills, litigation insight, and deep familiarity with tort law. The attorney will represent the company in settlement conferences?both virtually and in-person?and collaborate with internal teams and external legal professionals to drive favorable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
Independently negotiate and resolve personal injury and property damage lawsuits.

Attend and lead mediations with minimal supervision.

Evaluate cases, including medical reports and settlement databases, and make strategic settlement recommendations.

Draft legal documents such as stipulations of settlement, releases, pleadings, and motions.

Conduct or oversee relevant legal research to support negotiations and litigation strategy.

Represent the company in New York State Courts (Supreme, Civil, and Small Claims) and Federal Court as needed.

Collaborate with internal legal teams and offer guidance to external vendors or counsel.

Build and maintain professional relationships with insurance companies and opposing counsel to streamline case resolution.

Support broader Law Department initiatives as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications
5+ years of experience in case settlement and tort litigation.

Proven expertise in mediation and dispute resolution.

Experience with Verdict Search, Westlaw, and Lexus Nexus for settlement research and strategy.

Strong drafting skills for closing and legal documents post-settlement.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Extensive knowledge of tort litigation?not just general mediation or settlement.

Preferred & Soft Skills
Utility litigation experience is a plus, but not required.

Background in related legal areas such as labor law, trip and fall cases, municipalities, property damage, or subrogation is advantageous.

Mediation training is highly valued.

Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.

Self-directed, highly organized, and results-oriented.
