Senior Machinist | Devens, MA

Position Summary-
We are seeking an experienced Senior Machinist to operate conventional and/or CNC machining centers on semi-complex, precision components. This role requires strong experience working to tight tolerances (as close as ±.003 inches), advanced blueprint interpretation, and hands-on use of inspection equipment. The ideal candidate works independently with limited supervision, contributes to continuous improvement initiatives, and thrives in a team-based manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities-
Set up and operate multiple production machines to perform cutting, shaping, drilling, grinding, forming, deburring, and rework operations.

Execute machining operations using pre-planned materials, tooling, and established sequences; make necessary machine adjustments to ensure part quality.

Align and secure workpieces using standard fixtures and approved methods.

Install, adjust, and maintain cutting tools appropriate to material type and size.

Adjust feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to produce quality parts per engineering documentation.

Use hand and power tools to deburr precision and complex parts in accordance with semi-complex blueprints and route sheets.

Inspect parts for conformance to specifications using gauges, calipers, micrometers, comparators, and magnification equipment (including microscopes).

Perform visual inspections to identify burrs, surface defects, or damage in critical areas.

Maintain equipment cleanliness, accuracy, and reliability per divisional standards.

Perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) activities accurately and consistently.

Actively support and implement lean manufacturing initiatives by identifying opportunities for productivity, quality, and cost improvements.

Follow all company safety policies and procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications-
Minimum 3 years of related machining experience; able to work with limited supervision in a team environment.

Proven ability to set up machines independently.

Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and verbal instructions.

Demonstrated experience machining to tight tolerances (±.003 inches or tighter preferred).

Proficient with inspection equipment including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and comparators.

Working knowledge of machine shop mathematics, including trigonometry.

Experience applying lean manufacturing concepts and tools.

Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to interpret reports and use job-specific software and automated systems (e.g., PMR, TORS, email, employee self-service platforms).

Demonstrates strong teamwork, accountability, and attention to detail.
