Machinist | Devens, MA

Position Summary-

The Machinist operates two or more production machines to manufacture precision components in accordance with engineering documentation and established manufacturing processes. This position requires the ability to work from blueprints, sketches, and route sheets while maintaining close tolerances, supporting lean manufacturing initiatives, and collaborating effectively within a team environment under general supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities-
Operate two or more production machines using blueprints, sketches, and route sheets.

Set up and run production machines to perform machining operations including cutting, shaping, forming, drilling, reaming, and deburring of parts using pre-planned materials, tooling, and established sequences.

Perform secondary machining operations such as tapping, spot-facing, chamfering, countersinking, and counterboring to close tolerances.

Make required machine adjustments and report improper equipment function or cutting performance for corrective action.

Align, secure, and fasten workpieces using standard fixtures and approved methods.

Adjust feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface quality per engineering documentation.

Remove burrs, sharp edges, tool marks, and other surface irregularities from machined parts, including both simple and complex production components.

Inspect components for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments, gauges, and comparators.

Utilize magnification equipment to identify surface defects and protect critical areas; perform visual inspections for burrs or damaged surfaces.

Perform routine equipment maintenance to ensure cleanliness, accuracy, and reliability in accordance with divisional standards.

Accurately and consistently perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) activities.

Actively support lean manufacturing initiatives by identifying improvement opportunities and applying lean tools within the work area.

Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications-
Minimum two (2) years of related machining experience in a production or manufacturing environment.

Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and verbal instructions.

Working knowledge of machine shop mathematics, including trigonometry.

Proven ability to machine parts to close tolerances.

Experience applying lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices.

Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment with general supervision.

Proficiency in using job-specific software applications, employee self-service platforms, and specialized automated systems (e.g., PMR, TORS, email).

Typical Mental and Physical Demands

Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.

Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required to operate machinery and tools.

Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision requirements include close vision for inspection and precision work.

Regular attendance and the ability to work cooperatively and professionally with others are essential.
