Plastic packaging manufacturing company located in Carson is looking to hire a Procurement Specialist to join the Maintenance team. Monday - Friday 6am - 2:30pm The Tooling Buyer / Tool Room Procurement Specialist is responsible for purchasing tooling and consumables for the Tool Room and production operations. This role sources suppliers, obtains quotes, negotiates pricing and terms, and ensures the right tools are available at the right time and cost. The specialist partners closely with Tool Room technicians, Maintenance, Production, and Finance to maintain optimal inventory levels, reduce tooling costs, and uphold quality and delivery standards. Key Responsibilities: Source and purchase tooling, fixtures, cutting tools, gauges, MRO items, and related consumables. Develop and maintain an approved supplier list; identify and qualify alternate sources. Issue RFQs, analyze quotes (price, lead time, quality, total cost of ownership), and recommend award decisions. Negotiate pricing, volume discounts, consignment programs, and payment/shipping terms. Establish and monitor SLAs with vendors; drive corrective actions on delivery, quality, and service issues. Build long-term supplier relationships and conduct periodic business reviews. Track tooling spend; implement cost-reduction initiatives without compromising quality or uptime. Set and maintain min/max levels, reorder points, and safety stock for critical tooling. Partner with Tool Room Tech and Production to forecast tooling needs based on schedules, scrap, and changeovers. Expedite critical orders to prevent line stoppages; manage returns, replacements, and warranty claims. Maintain accurate item masters, part numbers, and catalogs for easy lookup. Create POs, receipts, and supplier records in the ERP/MRP system (JDEdwards/AS400). Ensure compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and ethical sourcing policies. Monitor supplier performance metrics and prepare periodic spend/savings reports. | |
